Tunisia: HAICA reveals complaint against government over dismissal of national TV CEO

Thursday, 10 December 2015 09:51

Tunisia’s justice was once again brought to decide in the ongoing confrontation opposing government to the independent high authority for audiovisual communication (HAICA). Hichem Snoussi, one of HAICA’s members announced on December 8, 2015, a complaint against the presidency.

The regulatory institution indeed continues opposing the unilateral dismissal of CEO of Tunisian Television Institution (ETT), Mustapha Ben Letaief. Indeed, the organization as we recall said its position as a regulatory institution “had been undermined” and its president, Nouri Laimi, said the decision of Head of State, Habib Essid, was rash and severe since HAICA should have first handled ETT’s former director’s case but this was not done.

The dismissal of the institution’s head followed that of Chief Editor of Al Watanya 1 after a “professional mistake” violating to human dignity. In fact, the TV station broadcasted images of the head of a shepherd who had been decapitated by Djihadists.
