RSF concerned over media’s situation in Guinea

Wednesday, 13 December 2017 17:30

“Over these past months, the government has been putting much pressure on media. Many media were forcefully suspended, while journalists were arrested and abused. Complaints were filed against the abusers and we hope the Guinean jurisdictions would be able to do justice to the abused,” said Clea Kahn-Sriber, the head of Reporters Sans Frontières (RSF) Africa, in an interview given yesterday to Africa Guinée.

In face of this issue, RSF met with the Guinean president to try to fix things. “Our general secretary was in Guinea last month for the roundtable of the Francophone Press Union (UPF). At this occasion, he was able to meet with President Alpha Condé. He relayed to him Reporters Sans Frontières’ various recommendations regarding the issue,” Clea Kahn-Sriber added.

Yet, the situation remains the same. In fact, many private radios were even recently closed for non-payment of royalties to the State.
