The Canal+ TV group announced that it will start broadcasting its A+ channel in France starting from February 9, 2016. This is the first step towards conquering African Diasporas worldwide. “We will go as far as Canada”, said Jacques du Puy, President of Canal+ Overseas, the group’s international division.
In France, the channel will be available as an option to CanalSat subscribers for €4/month in the “Africa” offer. This offer includes the Nollywood TV channel. “A+ will provide the African diaspora living in France a set of exclusives programs. Aside from Nollywood TV which offers Nigerian fictional movies, African content is rare on CanalSat. Moreover, there is a whole bouquet of co-productions which is available only in Africa,” says François Deplanck, director of channels and content Canal+ Overseas.
The A+ channel is available in Reunion and Mayotte since 2015 ending. It broadcasting in Haiti will start at the end of this month. François Deplanck in fact unveiled the ambition the group has for the channel: “The A+ channel which was launched a little more than a year ago targets the French-speaking world. The number of French-speaking people over the world should triple to 750 million by 2050, with 85% of this number in Africa”. “We aim to go to French-speakers wherever they may live,” added Jacques du Puy.
