Media24, South Africa’s leading website news, proceeded to a personnel reshuffling after News24’s chief editor, Andrew Trench, left. Adriaan Basson, the new super chief editor, will be, starting from April 1, 2016, will be at the head of the media’s journalists and content producers teams, in addition to news sector. Also, he is to coordinate News24’s financial platform, namely FIN24, as well as Sport24.
Adriaan Basson will thus quit his position as chief editor of the Netwerk24 site, which specializes on news in Afrikaans language. Johanna van Eeden, currently chief editor of Media24’s African news, namely Die Burger and Volksblad, will replace Basson.
For both chief editors, the task is challenging. Basson will be at the head of South Africa’s largest news site. News24 indeed has 6 million readers. As for van Eeden, she will be at the head of the fifth biggest news site of the country, with 1.3 million readers monthly.
Adriaan Basson has 13 years of experience as an investigation journalist. He worked in various news agencies of which, “Beeld”, “City Press”, and “Mail & Guardian”. He won various awards such as the CNN award for the African journalist.
