On February 15, 2016, the world renowned Beninese-born singer Angelique Kidjo confirmed her place at the top of world music as she received another Grammys Awards, one of the most prestigious music prizes awarded yearly in the United States. This is the second year, consecutively, that she wins a Grammy for Best World Music Album.
This year, it’s with “Sings” that she gets the award. It is a collection of her songs in collaboration with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg. “This is a fusion. What astounds me more and more is the openness of spirit by the Grammys compared with other events,” the New-York based musician told Agence France Presse.
The 55-year old artist thus wins her third Grammy Award. “I want to dedicate this Grammy to all the traditional musicians in Africa, in my country, to all the young generation. Africa is on the rise, Africa is positive, Africa is joyful,” she said.
