(Ecofin Agency) - In Senegal, the National Broadcasting Regulatory Council (Conseil national de régulation de l’audiovisuel-CNRA) organized on 6 -7 August 2018, consultation meetings to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the country’s advertising market. Most of the market’s actors were invited to participate for a better regulation of the sector in Senegal.
During the meeting, Babacar Touré (photo), the council’s outgoing president, denounced the anarchy characterizing the industry due to an almost total lack of regulatory framework. For instance, advertising posters’ permit procedures are handled by districts leading to the proliferation of promotional materials on highways.
Many advertisers also criticized marabous (religious teachers) and religious leaders’ access to advertising tools due to the absence of an ethical framework.
