The website www.guineevote.com is entirely dedicated to the presidential election in Guinea, which first round is scheduled to take place on 11 October 2015. This online platform was launched by the Association of Bloggers of Guinea (ABLOGUI) which seeks to give the citizens a means to ensure themselves the transparency of the polls.
The project stemmed from the ambition of ABLOGUI to put ICT at the service of Guineans in order to help them make an informed choice at the time of voting. The online platform offers many functionalities, including a tool to compare political programmes called Voxe.org. Usahidi, an interactive recording system enables users to give testimonies on the election campaign and the voting process, through SMS, social networks and emails.
The platform also has a media function. In this section, all the press articles relating to the presidential election are listed. The GuinéeVote project has an election monitoring section through the deployment of 200 e-observers in the 5 municipalities of Conakry, the capital and throughout the country.
To start, the platform will be fully funded by ABLOGUI which is counting on the commitment of its members throughout the world. A promise of support was made by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa foundation (OSIWA) which promotes transparency and good governance in West Africa.
