Algeria: Government set on blocking adversiting on foreign websites

Thursday, 20 October 2016 04:51

In a circular he signed, Algeria’s Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal said: “we have received information suggesting that some national operators diffuse ads paid in foreign currencies

Aside the fact that the Algerian law forbids services paid in foreign currencies, the head of the government fears that Algerian advertisers might abandon national websites for foreign platforms. The circular thus tells ministers to take the “necessary measures to end the inadmissible practices.” Sellal highlighted that the illegal practices “threaten content creators in Algeria”.

The circular mainly concerns web giants Facebook and Google. The Prime Minister is concerned by “banners and videos diffused with Google Adwords”. Truly, more and more public and private companies use these two web giants.
