In Burkina Faso, Airtel’s mobile users now have access to the digital version of the Ivorian daily “Fraternité Matin”. Named “Fratmat Actu”, this service is the product of a partnership between Airtel and Fraternité Matin.
According to the Director General of Fraternité Matin, Venance Konan, the new service was launched for two reasons. First, it was in order to sell the newspapers in a non-paper form as sales for the paper version have recently decreased. Secondly, it aims to improve the integration of Ivorian and Burkinabe populations. “We want to keep bringing news to Ivorian population and their allies, in all of Burkina Faso,” said Venance Konan.
Welcoming the partnership, the Minister of Communication Rémi Fulgence Dandjinou said: “I think public medias have understood the advantages of new information technology. The mobile phone is a powerful tool which each and everyone has access to nowadays”.
Since July 2015, the Burkinabe daily “Sidwaya” is available on mobile via MTN. Minister Dandjinou promised to give his support to reinforce the partnership between the two public medias, namely Sidwaya and Fraternité Matin, in Burkina Faso.
