The Etablissement de Radio Tunisienne, a public company, has been awarded 2 new licences from the High Independent Media Authority (Haute Autorité Indépendante de la Communication Audiovisuelle - HAICA). The request was made by the General Manager of the company, Abderrazak Tabib.
One licence will be for general news, broadcasting on the FM band and will cover the whole country. The other will be specialised in re-playing programs from public regional radios. Its coverage will be limited to Tunis only.
Founded in 2007, Etablissement de Radio Tunisienne thus broadens its radio offer. There are the national radios (Radio Tunis, Radio Tunisie Culture, Radio Jeunes or Radio Tunis Chaîne Internationale-RTCI). There are also the regional radios, including Radio Sfax, Radio Monastir, Radio Gafsa, Radio Tataouine, Radio Le Kef.
HAICA continues to answer to numerous requests for the creation of television channels and radio stations in Tunisia. In April 2015, the regulatory authority had already granted 5 new radio licences. This brings to 53 the number of television and radio stations in the public and private sectors, with 11 television channels including 2 public and 9 private.
