Another strike was just launched at Africa n°1 on February 22, 2016, Gabon Eco reported. The newspaper said the media has gone “voiceless” early in the morning that day. Employees of the radio station initiated this new strike to denounce the degradation of their working conditions since the beginning of the year. Truly, for almost four months now, they have not received their salary.
Strikers, tired of the unstable functioning of the station, want to know how far is the implementation of the commission which was to provide solutions regarding Africa n°1’s re-launch. They also denounced the absence of social partners in the matter.
Last month, while Africa n°1 was exiting a year full of strikes, Gabon’s Minister of Communication, Alain-Claude Billie By Nzé, said government would provide the radio with CFA150 million each month. This sum was to be used to pay salaries and insure the functioning of privatization committee as well institutions in charge of judicial restructuring.
Africa n°1’s communicators union (Syca) has planned to hold a general staff meeting on February 24.
