Tunisia: Nessma TV boosts audience with exclusive interview with President of the Republic

Thursday, 24 September 2015 11:13

In Tunisia, the television channel Nessma broadcast an exclusive interview of the President of the Republic, Béji Caid Essebsi, from 21h05 on 22 September 2015. The audience level exploded on the channel of Nabil Karoui. In effect, there was not a better prime time on the television in the whole of Tunisia.

According to Audimat.tn measurement results, Nessma TV achieved the best audience rating with 23.4% at 22h05. The gap is quite wide compared to the other local channels, such as Hiwar Ettounsi (8.8%), Al Watania 1 (4.4%) and Hannibal TV (2.9%).

This media scoop appears to be a reconciliation between, on one hand, Nessma TV and its boss Nabil Karoui and, on the other hand, the Head of State who is a member of Nidaa Tounes party.

It should be recalled that Nessma TV had given access to several cadres of this political party to settle their scores on their satellite broadcast. Moreover, there had been criticism from Nabil Karoui in the month of May, after the rejection of his request to join the founding committee of the new party in power.

However, it was at Nessma TV that the Head of State granted the first interview, not to another channel, not even to a public media.

In any case, the large audience recorded by Nessma TV is also  quite a feat for President Béji Caid Essebsi who didn't fail to go on a charm offensive during his interview with the journalist Borhen Bsaies. He replied to critiques on the recent law on reconciliation, the social peace agreement, government function and also Tunisian external relations.
