Condemnations are multiplying since the suspension of the programme Sahara Talk on the radio Sahara Fm in Mauritania. On 21 September 2015, several journalists observed a sit-in in front of the head office of the High Authority for the Press and Audiovisual sector (HAPA). It is this regulatory body which suspended the show Sahara Talk for 30 days, starting from last 17 September.
Following the journalists demonstration, there was a joint denunciation formulated by the Union of Mauritanian journalists (SJM), the Association of Mauritanian journalists (AJM) and the International Federation of journalists (FIJ).
These professional press organisations refute the justification given by HAPA for the suspension of the broadcast, which is that the presenter of the programme is biased and "permanently incites violence and defames individuals and groups". The show is even charged with threatening national unity and insults against the listeners. HAPA is accused of concealing its true reasons, because it does not accept criticism against the President of Mauritania and other public personalities.
