“Denis Sassou N’Guesso, a life at the service of Congo”. This is the title of a documentary which will be released on November 2015. The film is a production from Central African journalist Georges Adrien Poussou, former minister of Communication, now fallen into disgrace in his country.
The title of the documentary says everything on the direction chosen by the author. He defends the track record of Congolese president Denis Sassou N’Guesso in power since 1997, after leading Congo from 1979 to 1992. The president has made know his intention to solicit another mandate during the presidential election in 2016.
In his information note, Georges Adrien Poussou is indeed addressing “some Congolese politicians” whom he believes harbour “dark intentions” because they are requesting for change in power at the head of Congo. The documentary is therefore a response to those critiquing Denis Sassou N’Guesso. “He remains of the rare among the African leaders to make his voice heard, a voice of wisdom and reason for at least a quarter of a century. He was a part of all the struggles for freedom and emancipation of the African continent”, Georges Adrien Poussou writes.
The documentary thus related the life of President Denis Sassou N’Guesso through testimonies from his close relations and majors actors of the political scene. In the film, the fate of the Congolese people almost merges with the journey of its president Denis Sassou N’Guesso, presented as “patriarch”. The author did not reveal the budget of this film, nor its source of funding.
