In Burkina Faso, the Coalition pour la Renaissance Artistique au Burkina Faso (CORA/BF) demanded that radios and televisions broadcast 90% of local music. The association reached out to the High Communication Council (CSC), in the name of all musicians and professionals from the music industry of the country.
According to Mamadi Barra alias Bam Raady, coordinator of CORA/BF, the request is based on the fact that more local musical productions are being released, and also on the right that each nation has to protect its culture. For these reasons, the quota of local music broadcasted on radios and televisions should be increased.
CSC’s president, Nathalie Somé, said a brainstorming workshop would be organized on March 29 and 30, 2016, in Bobo-Dioulasso to discuss CORA/BF’s request. Then will be define modalities regarding the promotion of Burkinabe culture in media.
