Algeria has decided to teach the Tamazight language to media professionals and literary artists. The activity will be supported by the High Council for Amazighity (HCA) which announced that the first training session will take place from 1^st to 4^th September 2014 at the National Library of El-Hamma. The training is open to all journalists from public and private press, whether from national or regional media.

The General Secretary of HCA, Si El-Hachemi Assad, recalled that the initiative is part of the agreements linking the institution to the ministries of National Education and Communication as of this year 2015. He stressed the importance of training journalists who write and communicate in Tamazight, as the challenge is really to have better presentation of the information in Amazighophone communication outlets and in media in general.

Mr. Si El-Hachemi Assad noted that journalists from the written, spoken and audio-visual press have difficulty in transmitting information in Tamazight, the symbolic language of the Amazigh culture, one of the most important in the country. “The goal, he continued, is to make good use of the media language, to define it and avoid the traps of loan translations which, not only, distort the language, but sometimes deviate the transmitted message from its original meaning, particularly in cases of translations.”
