Tunisia: MFM Radio fined with $24,800 for illegal broadcasting

In Tunisia, the High Independent Audiovisual Communication Authority (HAICA) fined MFM Radio with 50,000 dinars ($24,853).

The private media was sanctioned for illegally airing its programs in Sousse. The communication authority backed its decision saying MFM’s licence does not cover Mahdia. “By continuing airing in Sousse, MFM has been categorized as a station with no authorization to broadcast in this town,” the communication regulatory authority said in a statement.

According to HAICA, MFM has been fined because its heads have ignored the request sent them in November 2015 to stop broadcasting via a non-authorized network and conform to the provisions of the agreement they signed. MFM is a generalist media
