The New York Forum Africa (NYFA) 2015 was the birthplace, yesterday in Agondjé, of the African Music Institute, a Pan African institution for teaching and production, dedicated to enhancing African talents in the entertainment and cultural products industry.
Founded on a public-private partnership, a memorandum of understanding was signed to that end by Pacôme Moubelet Boubeya, Gabonese minister of Tertiary Education and Scientific Research, Frédéric Gassita, President of the African Music Institute (state-approved foundation) and Larry Simpson, rector of Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA.), one of the biggest private music school in the world.
On a vast area in La Sablière, the African Music Institute campus will host study and rehearsal rooms, a theatre and concert hall for the general public, a museum, a dance school as well as a recording studio set to the best international standards, according to a communiqué from the office of the President of Gabon. This studio designed by John Storyk, one of the greatest contemporary sound architects, is destined to double up as a Pan African music publishing label managed by an international group. The first breaking of the ground of this institute in La Sablière is scheduled for 1st January 2016.
