(Ecofin Agency) - The Nigerian Agip Oil Company, (NAOC) an affiliated company of the Italian multinational Eni has so far recorded six cases of crude oil spill this month and 11 cases in August, according to spills data obtained by Sweetcrude Reports.
NAOC operates Nigeria’s OMLs 60, 61, 62 and 63 as well as OPLs 282 and 135.
The data acquired from the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), confirmed all 17 cases which were mainly caused by sabotage and theft.
To NOSDRA, NAOC had two cases of gas spill due to sabotage and theft on the 2nd of September. The first which occurred on the 6” Tuomo-Ogbeinbiri pipeline at Ogbosuware swampy area while the second incident occurred on the 6” Tuomo-Ogbeinbiri pipeline at Adegbe, both in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The two cases were reported to NOSDRA the following day.
Meanwhile on the 8th of September, NAOC again spilled seven barrels (1,110 litres) of crude oil due to sabotage and theft on the 6” Ogboibiri-Tebidaba flowline at Azuzuama, Southern-Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. NOSDRA said a “2′ x 2′ incision or cut was made by unknown persons on the pipeline, causing the spill.
The following day, another spill occurred on NAOC’s 18” Tebidaba-Brass pipeline at Tebidada flow station located in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, but the amount of crude spilled was not disclosed.
Three day later, the company spilled two barrels (318 litres) of crude oil due to the same issue of sabotage and theft on the Ebocha flowline, along old Ebocha ferry road, Obrikom, Onelga, Rivers State.
NOSDRA however explained that 10 metres of the flowline was cut and carted away by unknown persons. The spill was reported same day and stopped the next day, the agency said.
