The President of South Sudan Salva Kiir has fired the head of the Nile Petroleum company, which manages the country’s oil industry, as it continues to struggle with fuel shortage.
In a decree, President Kiir stripped the managing director of Nile petroleum, Joseph Cleto, and appointed Moses Machar Achiek to replace him, Sudan Tribune reports.
Moses Machar Achiek has served as undersecretary of the ministry of petroleum and mining and he is to be replaced by Mohamed Lino.
However, no reason was disclosed by the presidential decree concerning the changes, as the country keeps battling with fuel shortage.
Meanwhile, the outgoing director had announced on Sunday the arrival of 50 tanks of fuel aimed at addressing the ailing transport in Juba. Nevertheless long queues were seen at fuel stations on Monday.
Nile Petroleum took up the supply of fuel to the country in 2014,due to attempts by commercial suppliers to increase the price of litre from the government’s sanctioned six South Sudanese pound per litre.
