The President of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete while speaking at an official launching of infrastructure for the processing of natural gas said he is confident that the newly found natural gas in the country will help overcome the constant power outages.
"Tanzania relied on hydro-power generation for many years. Ten years ago, the nation experienced serious droughts that lowered water levels of the main power dams of Mtera, Kihansi and Kidatu. A similar situation is being experienced at the moment," Kikwete said.
He stated that the country is currently making the right choice by diversifying to other power-generating sources such as gas or renewable energy, adding that by exploiting those sources Tanzania will improve its power supply.
"Again water levels are too low to sustain power generation. But the use of natural gas in addition to other potential sources of power like wind, coal and solar will guarantee unfailing supply for many years to come", he told Esi-africa.
