Nigeria: PENGASSAN approves FG’s proposal to separate NNPC, warns against victimization of workers

Wednesday, 16 December 2015 18:02

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), has authorized moves by the Federal Government to divide the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

PENGASSAN President, Francis Johnson, declared this on Tuesday at the 4th Triennial Delegates' Conference, in Abuja.

According to ThisDay, information contained in the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), is to be re-presented to the National Assembly in Q1 of 2016. Part of this information includes ways by which NNPC can be divided.

The union, while authorizing reforms in the oil and gas industry, warned the government against making workers the first victims in the planned division of the corporation. It noted that if this should occur, it would generate a disturbing effect of industrial conflict in the sector.
