Toward resolving the dispute that led Nigeria to threaten of cut gas supply, Ghana has announced that it will pay the sum of 170 million dollars it owes Nigeria by February 2016.
According to the spokesperson of Ghanaian Ministry of Power, the Volta River Authority the country’s state power generating company is to pay the debt to N-Gas in three parts starting from November.
« The high-powered delegation that went (to the Nigerian capital, Abuja) was able to negotiate for Nigeria Gas (N-Gas) to continue to supply the country the needed gas, » Mr. Sersah said in a statement adding that the terms were still being finalized.
Around 25% of Ghana’s power comes from the gas it gets from Nigeria. Therefore, cutting that supply would have made complicated matters for Ghana’s government who vowed to put an end to the regular power outages currently experienced in the country by 2015 ending, Premium time Reports.
