Sudan’s oil minister Mohamed Zayed Awad today reveals that the country has submitted an application to join the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
"We have already submitted an application and are waiting for a decision," the minister told Sudan tribune "Now, everything depends on OPEC" he added.
The country had for a long time expressed its desire to be a part of the organization especially during the year when its oil output was close to 500,000 bbl/d.
In 2012, Sudan was again categorized as a net exporter to a net importer of oil by IMF after its South gained independence and became a state taking with it 75% of the oil reserves that existed in the united Sudan.
In fact, it is now not clear why the idea of the country joining OPEC has been brought to life.
