South Africa: Sasol provides production update at its Synfuels business

Wednesday, 28 October 2015 14:16

Sasol has announced that a planned shutdown at its Synfuels operation affected production in the last quarter towards the end of September.

The company’s Synfuels business produced 8million bbls of refined product in Q1 2015 while on  30th of June 2015, it produced 32.9-million bbls. According to Sasol, a planned shutdown at its Natref refinery will affect full year volumes. In Q1 the refinery, which is part of Sasol’s energy business, processed 5.7-million BO. Its energy business also includes the ORYX gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant in Qatar and the Escrarvos GTL plant in Nigeria.

As a matter of fact, in the Exploration and Production International (EPI) business, natural gas production in Canada was 4.7-Bcf. The company revealed that production in Canada where it has shale assets has declined as a result of reduced drilling in the past financial year. Production was, however, anticipated to increase marginally with the completion of additional wells, Sasol told Engineering news.

Sasol Mining operates six coal mines which supply feedstock for the company’s Secunda Synfuels plant and the Sasolburg operations. The mining business’ saleable output for the quarter was 9.6-million tons.
