The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Friday called on the Federal Government to use the money collected from those who stole from the treasury to build refineries in order to meet the country’s energy requirements.
The union made this call at a stakeholders meeting held in Lagos on fuel subsidy and petrol pricing in Nigeria.
“It has become obvious that building refineries is imperative for Nigeria to meet its energy needs. And we are calling on the federal government to use the recovered loot to build refineries. We do not want Nigerian workers to be used to pay the price of Nigeria’s economic mismanagement by those who have had the opportunity of running this country. The refineries must work. We must insist that those who ruined the economy must be made to pay for it”, General Secretary, NLC, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, told Vanguard.
According to the factional President of NLC, Ayuba Wabba, the stakeholder meeting was stirred by the necessity to build capacity among labour stakeholders to better involve the government on its policies concerning fuel subsidy and petrol pricing in Nigeria.
