Thursday, 01 December 2016 08:24

The Bellara 1,398 MW gas-powered power plant will be operational in 2018, revealed the head of Sonelgaz, Algeria’s power and gas provider, Mustapha Guitouni.

Guitouni gave “strict instructions to the people in charge of the project so that they put twice more efforts into it, in order to insure that the plant is delivered in due time and avoid unforeseen issues”.

The plant is part of the Algeria-Qatar Bellara steel complex project. 400 MW of its output will according to the project be directed to the Jijel wilaya.

The plant’s construction began in 2013 and was estimated to cost more than $800 million.

In addition, a 440 kV power line is also being built to connect the plant to the Oued El Athmania station. Its main role will be to allow the plant to complete initial stages of experimental operation.
