Senegal to replicate Morocco’s solar model

Wednesday, 02 March 2016 16:40

Senegal plans to develop its energy sector by emulating Morocco’s solar power strategy, said Amadou Hott, Director General of Sovereign Fund for Strategic Investment during Africa Development Forum.

Meeting with executives from the Moroccan Solar Energy Agency (MASEN), Amadou Hott said Senegal, partnering with World Bank, planned on replicating Morocco’s solar model. Senegal thus wishes to “develop a partnership for the development of solar power, and structured financing so as to attract innovating funding”, Amdou Hott said.

Via its National Water and Electricity Office, Morocco who aims to build the world’s biggest solar park, already made few steps in Senegal by establishing a power network that goes through Saint-Louis, Dagana and Podor. The corresponding agreement includes distribution and network management.
