(Ecofin Agency) - Power Company Lekela completed a fundraising on Senegal’s first wind power project. The facility which will be erected in Taiba N'Diaye is set to generate 158.7 MW (about 15% of the national electrical power), providing energy for over 2 million people. It will use 46 turbines of 3.45 MW each.
The fund was mobilized from the US development finance institution, Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), and the Danish export credit agency EKF. The project will also be aided by the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIga) which is World Bank’s political risk insurance arm, and the US Power Africa project.
Let’s note that Lekela has a portfolio of over 1,300 MW in Africa. It also operates in Egypt, Ghana and South Africa.
