Rebecca Miano, first woman to head Kenya’s power utility (KenGen)

Rebecca Miano (picture) is the new managing director and CEO of Kenya’s power utility, KenGen. Lawyer by profession, Miano who was insuring the interim since August 2017, following the departure of Albert Mugo, thus becomes the first woman to hold this position. She was picked out of 91 candidates.

“The Board is confident that Mrs Miano’s skills and wealth of experience, having worked in the company for the past 19 years, will help drive KenGen forward and position it as a leader in the energy sector,” KenGen Chairman Joshua Choge said in a statement.

Rebecca Miano who joined the firm 1998, has occupied various functions including that of main legal advisor, deputy general secretary and legal director. Before becoming KenGen’s acting managing director, she was in charge of implementing the firm’s governance agenda.
