Nigeria set to increase power capacity by 2,000 MW in 2016

Thursday, 04 February 2016 12:57

In respect to the various projects that its government plans to implement, Nigeria should install 2000 MW of additional power plants this year. This was announced by the Minister of Energy, Babatunde Raji Fashola.

Optimistic, he said: “It is possible. I believe we can do it if we can implement the right methodology”.

During budget defense of its division before senatorial committee for energy and mines, the Minister said the national power industry was undergoing changes that would gradually lead it to independence. The 2016 budget will in a major part be directed towards the completion of ongoing projects and expanding national transmission grid.

Back from the recent COP 21, Nigeria decided to add 13,000 MW to its actual power capacity with off-grid power plants.
