Malawi: Toshiba to build a geothermal plant

The Japanese multinational company Toshiba concluded a Memorandum of Understanding with Malawi’s energy ministry to set a geothermal plant within the country. 

According to the agreement’s terms, both entities will jointly implement the plant whose capacity is 1-10 MW. Moreover, it will also allow to enhance the sector’s capacity.

“Toshiba is the world's number one supplier of geothermal turbines. Our record to date covers delivery of 56 systems, with a total capacity of 3,628MW. We are delighted with this opportunity to work with MNREE, and to use our established expertise to contribute to geothermal power supply in Malawi,” Toyoaki Fujita, the business development executive at Toshiba, said.

Let’s recall that over the last three years, Toshiba also signed geothermal plants development MoUs with Ethiopia, Tanzania and Djibouti.
