Kenya signed with France five funding agreements totaling close to €250 million ($284 million) including €180 million to go into power industry. 120 million are to be injected into the Last Mile Connectivity Program to electrify Kenya and 60 million to finance the Meru wind farm which has a capacity of 400 MW.
Moreover, a partnership agreement was signed with French Development Agency which committed to in many sectors of Kenya, energy included.
During the press conference following the signing of the agreements, Kenya’s president, Uhuru Kenyatta, described France as a friend and a partner to Kenya’s economic development. “We are here to strengthen our relationship with the French government and its people,” he said.
Kenya has launched a massive electrification program which led to the connecting of 1.2 million of more people to the grid during the past year.
