Power developer Zoetic will develop in Swaziland a 200 MW hydropower project. The firm has indeed signed a memorandum of understanding for the project and should within the next 60 days deploy a team to explore the river system for the project.
Estimated to cost $600 million, the project developer will use some of the infrastructures of existing dams. It will use floating, portable modular units which are to be placed in the post-dam flows of existing hydro power plants. “The turbine system is anchored at river bed with cable or rod linked between the turbine system and anchor. This design allows the turbine to be adjusted to the water level, regardless of rainy or dry season,” said Zoetic’s CEO, Jerome Ringo.
“Swaziland can generate enough electricity to meet its power demand and sell the remainder to other countries,” he added. Truly, the country currently generates 15-17% of the power it consumes.
