Senegal now has an installed power-generation capacity of 1,000 MW, revealed Makhtar Cissé, director of SENELEC, the country’s power utility. This capacity was at 660 MW.
“It is a real boost,” said the official while adding: “Service quality will improve five times. Work done is extremely important and it costs FCFA7 billion (about $12 million). It aims at installing 200 substations”.
Major efforts are being provided to achieve this goal. These includes the use of renewable energy with the commissioning of the country’s biggest solar plant in Méouane (30MW).
“Our goal is not to completely end outages because it has been achieved nowhere, rather we wish to reduce them as much as possible, to satisfy our customers,” Cissé said.
