The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Bayelsa State Government plan to construct a power plant in the State, in a bid to resolve the country’s power challenges.
The planned power plant would be constructed at the state’s industrial park, according to the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Maikanti Baru (photo). He said the collaboration would establish an avenue to share technical knowledge that would attract investors to the Niger Delta region.
“We have a lot of areas of collaboration. The NNPC will support Bayelsa State Government every inch of the way to deliver on the power plant in the proposed industrial park, ensure security of oil and gas infrastructure and siting of other inclusive projects that would improve the lives of the people in the communities,” Baru assured.
The GMD also explained that the State had been selected for the Federal Government’s Greenfield Modular Refinery project but it was delayed due to the withdrawal of foreign partners.
In addition, NNPC also expressed interest in the State’s Brass Fertilizer Company. According to Baru, the corporation is prepared to invest in the project as a shareholder.
