Nigeria: General Electric and Niger Delta Power Holding Company to improve power supply

Friday, 06 July 2018 18:01

General Electric (GE) announced its intention to collaborate with Nigeria’s power utility Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) on the development of an integrated plan to improve power supply in the country. This followed the signing of a MoU between both parties this week.

The project aimed at making operational the grid’s under-utilized or non-used capacity, focusing on the entire electricity value chain. Under the agreed terms, additional 2.5 GW should be generated with support from GE. The latter will also provide funds for the refurbishment of power distribution and transmission infrastructure, among others.

Let’s note that key projects would be identified by NDPHC, jointly with power distribution and transmission companies as well as other stakeholders, to cut electricity commercial and technical losses in Nigeria.
