Africa-focused U.S power develope Endeavor accuses Starenergie to have violated terms of the agreement relative to the Songon gasfired power plant by awarding its construction to China Energy Engineering Corportaion (CEEC).
The Ivorian company signed in 2015 with Endeavour a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) for the construction of the 372 MW power plant and for its supply in liquefied natural gas. However, on August 20, 2016, it signed with CEEC an agreement under which the Chinese firm will build the infrastructure and finance 75% of its cost.
“Endeavor is disappointed by Starenergie's actions, which are inconsistent with both our JDA agreement and international best practices,” the US firm said in a statement adding that : “Endeavor is fully committed to enforcing its rights under the JDA and will seek redress against Starenergie and anyone tortiously interfering with its contractual rights.”
Starenergie CEO Richard Amon rejected Endeavor's criticisms, saying his company had informed Endeavor in January that it believed the U.S. company had failed to meet its obligations.
“I've done everything I could to work with Endeavor. We sent a letter terminating the JDA,” he said
