Ghana to import 200 MW of power from Côte d’Ivoire, following the shutdown of Atuabo gas processing plant

Wednesday, 07 February 2018 10:34

In Ghana, Volta River Authority (VRA) wants to import 200 MW of power from Côte d’Ivoire to complement its local production and avoid the rationing of power supplied to consumers.

The operation was made necessary by the shutdown on last Feb 1st, of the gas processing plant at Atuabo plant for maintenance purposes. The plant usually supplies power to various thermal power stations located in Aboadze region.

“We will operate up to two turbines on Light Crude Oil (LCO) in combined cycle mode to generate up to 300MW from Aboadze to support the system. In addition, VRA will receive on demand up to 200MW of power from La Cote d’Ivoire to complement generation,” said the VRA in a statement.

Further shutdowns are planned in the gas processing plant during March and November this year.
