(Ecofin Agency) - The multinational Kibo Mining signed a partnership agreement with the Mozambican company Termoeléctrica de Benga to co-develop a coal-fired power plant in Mozambique. The infrastructure, whose capacity will range between 150 MW and 300 MW, will be 65% owned by Kibo and 35% by Termoeléctrica.
Under the agreed terms, both companies will build and operate the unit. To this end, it has been planned to leverage Kibo's expertise in power plants’ development in East Africa, as well as its collaboration with international energy companies such as General Electric or Sepco III.
Let’s note that Kibo Mining plans to position itself as an important operator in the region’s energy sector. The company is also active on Mbeya coal-fired power plant (300 MW) in Tanzania and has recently acquired 85% shares in the Mabesekwa coal-fired power plant (600 MW) in Botswana.
