Genesis Electricity Ltd signed with Benin an agreement for the implementation of 360 MW of gas-fueled power plants out of which 120 MW to be installed in the initial phase.
Valued at $190 million, it will be financed by the firm and its output will be purchased by government. Once completed, the project will constitute more than 30% of the country’s capacity. This output will directly be transferred to national grid and distributed by Société Nationale d’Energie Electrique (SBEE), the local power provider.
Concerning the establishment of plants, Genesis will be working with General Electric, Cummins Co-Gen Uk and Engro Corporation.
“With this project, Benin will have access to a reliable, clean and affordable energy source. It is part of our greater scheme to electrify all Africa, community after community”, said Genesis’ CEO, Akinwole Omoboriowo, during signing of agreement. The firm plans to train locals who will then be able to participate to the implementation of infrastructures.
