Wednesday, 11 January 2017 09:51

With the alarming rate of attacks on gas pipelines by militants in Niger Delta, the Federal Government of Nigeria on Tuesday ordered the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to search for alternative energy sources, with the aim of resolving the problems of irregular power supply in the country.

According to the Group General Manager, Renewable Energy Division of NNPC, Rabiu Suleiman, the Corporation is prepared to work together with stakeholders in the power sector, so as extend the development of renewable energy, especially solar.

He further explained that the NNPC is on the verge of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a local company, NIGUS International, to form a common partnership aimed towards transforming the country through the use of alternative energy, Energy Mix reports.

Renewable energy is a very welcome development and this is an effort that government has been making for several years. It forms part of the various discussions that President Muhammadu Buhari has undertaken in different countries including China and United States of America,” he said.
