In Malawi, government started negotiations with foreign investors over establishment of 1,000 MW of solar plants, by 2020.

We are engaging with a number of investors in solar technology. Once implemented, these projects expected to address electricity shortage currently facing the nation, Joseph Kalowekamo, executive at Ministry of Energy, said.

In 2015, a consortium established by Global Business Resources LLC, Flatbush Solar LLC, Kunsons Consulting and Erie Consulting, manifested its interest for Malawi’s power market by offering to establish many power plants with of a capacity of 1.5 MW – 100 MW.

Malawi last year produced 408 MW for a demand of 700 MW. By 2020, this demand should rise to 829 MW, according to government.
