Morocco and Russia looking to boost cooperation in power sector

Friday, 13 October 2017 15:30

Morocco and Russia wish to boost their cooperation in the power sector. This was disclosed by Dmitri Medvedev (picture), Russia’s Prime Minister, while visiting the Cherifian kingdom.

“The potential for cooperation is quite significant. We are discussing of ways to improve our cooperation in the nuclear energy and renewable energies sectors,”said the Russian official, subsequent to a meeting with his Moroccan counterpart, Saad Eddine El Othmani.

If Morocco is yet to declare its ambitions for the nuclear sub-sector, it however asked in 2015 the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to assess its capacities to start a nuclear programme.

Morocco plans to boost renewables’ share in its energy mix to 52%, in the framework of the fight against global warming.
