Africa will be the first region in the world to consolidate its development on renewable energies. "I am very excited about this. In the world energy history, other regions were developed mainly on coal. But in Africa, we have great chances of seeing for the first time an economic growth based on clean energy" Fatih Birol, President of the International Energy Agency, declared during the launch of the World Energy Outlook 2015 (World Energy Prospects), the world reference in terms of energy forecasts.

According to this report, the world energy consumption will increase by more than 70% by 2040, even though 550 million people would still not have gained access yo electricity. Renewable energies will have a more important share in the energy mix. "Renewable energies will become the main source of energy, and this, starting from now", he said. According to the report, 40% of the energy produced in Africa by that time will be renewable.

We will moreover see the correlation between economic development and energy demand disappear. Advanced economies such as Europe, the U.S.A. and Japan will indeed see their energy demand decrease despite their economic growth.
