Algeria plans to implement 4,500 MW of renewable energies by 2020. This was announced by Salah Khebri, Algeria’s Minister of Energy. This objective in the mid-term falls in line with the nation’s ambition to develop 22,000 MW of renewable energy by 2030, 25% of the overall installed capacity.
In this regard, Sonagel, the state-owned company in charge of electricity and gas has already launched a programme involving the implementation of power stations of a capacity of 400 MW, of which 84 MW already operational. The minister of Energy said all the stations associated to the programme should be operational by June-July this year.
Algeria has already implemented a law regulation which allows actors of the private sector to take part into Energy-related programmes. Authorities of the Wilayas have also been called upon to provide the sites which are to host these plants. Selection of freelance developers should begin soon.
