Morocco will inject $40 billion in its energy sector over the next 15 years. Out of this budget, $30 billion will be dedicated to clean energies. This was revealed to The Naimbian by Abdelkader Amara, Minister of Energy and Mines.
“Morocco has been a strong pillar of power transition in Africa and the world,” he said. The Christian Kingdom plans for 42% of energy it produces by 2020 to be clean energy. A proportion which should rise to 52% in 2030.
To this end, it collaborated with France during the last COP 21 conference in Paris. The collaboration produced an agreement which aims at reducing global warming below 2°C, compared to pre-industrial area, by getting as close as possible to 1.5°C.
In November this year, Morocco will host the COP 22 talks which will allow for implementation of mechanisms needed to achieve the goals set in Paris.
