The Federal Government of Nigeria plans to develop 4,000 MW from nuclear plants. “Nigeria is aspiring to start a programme in the coming years that will give this country 1,000 MW of electricity in the first instance, to be increased to 4,000 MW thereafter, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity,” Garba Shehu said in a statement.

To achieve this, the nation will rely on the support on International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) whose Director General, Yukiya Amano, was recently received by President Buhari at the presidential house. After saying he was pleased to see Nigeria take part in an IAEA programme and demanded the agency to get more involved with Nigeria.

Garba Shehu also said ministers of power, solid minerals, health science and technology are developing training sessions for doctors and working to establish specialist medical centers to protect citizens’ health if needed.

Amano said he was pleased to see Nigeria take the appropriate steps toward a safe usage of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
