Scatec Solar ASA will build in the Jigawa State, Nigeria, a 100 MW solar plant.“Solar power in Nigeria has significant long-term potential, and we want to take part in the development of this new market,” said Scatec Solar chief executive Raymond Carlsen

Contract for the project which was obtained from the Canadian energy developer CDIL and Nigerian construction consultant BPS includes development, construction and operation of the plant. Output from the plant will be sold to Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading, as part of a 20-year purchasing power contract.

Mobilization of funding for the project should end in 2017 and construction should start the following year. “With the quality of its site, development standards and equity funded by Scatec Solar and its partners, the project is ideally positioned to progress rapidly to financial close,” Carlsen said.

Scatec Solar currently has in the world solar power plants generating a total of 404MW, most of them in Africa.
