(Ecofin Agency) - The Solektra Solar academy funded by Solektra International, who initiated the Akon Lighting Africa program, was commissioned on December 16 in Bamako. Dedicated towards solar technologies, this academy which is to open its gates next month, will train each year 200 workers.
Headed by Patrice Dangang, the institution will offer theoretical as well as practical training on subjects such as decentralized electrification systems in rural areas or awareness-raising on solar market activity. Latest simulation equipment will be used during practical classes.
Through this academy, Akon Lighting Africa will acquire the necessary human resources to pursue its electrification project in Africa. Already present in 15 African countries, mainly in West Africa, the project is to extend to 10 more countries next year. Asia is also targeted by this project.
“Africa needs competent and massive human resources to overcome the energy crisis it currently faces,” said Samba bathily, Solektra’s co-founder with Thione niang and singer Akon. “Solar technologies have become extremely profitable and can be massively deployed to develop Africa’s economy. Our continent will soon have the means to drive global growth forward” Akon added.
